Parrotlets have a pleasant chirp, are considered one of the easiest birds to care for and feed, and most have the ability to learn speech. The original color, green, looks very much like its supposed, much larger, predecessor. They are not budgies, and are thought to be descendants of the Amazon Parrot. These tiny yet magnificent birds make great companions and good entertainment. The smallest parrot, but the biggest personality. They are active but not overly loud or squawky, so they can be kept in apartments or in homes with noise-sensitive neighbors. Parrotlets can be great as first birds for families with elementary school-aged or older children or for individuals wanting a pet bird. Babies are weaned onto fresh veggies and fruit, fresh sprouted seeds, beans and legumes, and a high quality dry seed mixture. They are parent raised until about 12-14 days old at which point they are pulled for handfeeding. All of my babies are close banded with personalized L&M leg bands except in rare cases where that window may be missed and I utilize open bands instead. As a result, I have a limited number of offspring available for sale each year. My birds generally have 2-3 clutches a year and are rested appropriately.
